When is trustee service needed?

Trustee service is used when a national registry requires local presence and your company cannot meet the requirement on its own. A local agent can then provide the presence required for registration under agreed terms.

The rules differ between countries. We therefore start by checking the current requirements for the relevant extension before recommending a solution.

Domains that require local presence

Requirements may concern the registrant's address, a national organisation number, a local contact or other documentation. They apply to some country code domains while others allow registration without a local establishment.

How .no works for foreign companies

A Swedish organisation number alone is not enough for .no. Norid requires an organisation to be registered in the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises, have an approved legal form and a Norwegian postal address. A Norwegian registered foreign company, NUF, is one approved legal form.

A trustee arrangement must be assessed based on who becomes the registered subscriber and how control of the domain is regulated.

Clear responsibilities and control

Before registration, we review who is listed as registrant, how decisions about the domain are made and what applies to transfers or termination. The agreement should make responsibilities clear to both parties.
